Each month the coaching staff at EHP selects a member that is “Better Than Yesterday!” The selected recipient is a great example of EHP’s CREDO—demonstrating compassion, honesty, resilience, perseverance, and tenacity. Rachel Nemer was selected as November’s “Better Than Yesterday” recipient.

Rachel was asked a series of questions about her experience at EHP:

– Why did you start CrossFit?
I started CrossFit because of my older brother. He has been doing CrossFit for years and told me over and over that I needed to try it because I would love it. He was absolutely right. It was a perfect fit for me and I wish I had listened to him sooner.

-Why do you continue CrossFit?
I continue CrossFit because, although I haven’t been doing it for that long, I have already seen the major benefits that it is having on my life. I am so much stronger, both physically and mentally since starting EHP. I feel challenged every time I step into the gym, whether it’s a workout that I never thought I would get through, or a coach encouraging me to use a heavier weight (which happens quite often). I am constantly pushed to be the best athlete I can be. Not only am I challenged every day, but I also have so much fun at the gym as well. The CrossFit community is one of the most welcoming and encouraging environments I have ever been a part of. The other athletes and the coaches at EHP create such an enjoyable atmosphere. I get so excited and genuinely look forward to going to workout everyday, which is a major reason I continue CrossFit.

-What has been your greatest achievement since starting EHP?
I think that I am most proud of how much improvement I have seen in myself in just the short period of time since I started at EHP. Movements that I thought would take me years to figure out have started to come together, and I am so excited to see what other improvements I can make sticking with it even longer. Also, for someone who is not a morning person, I think it is a pretty big achievement for me to wake up and work out at 6:30 in the morning! That says a lot about the gym, I must really like it.

-How has your life changed since joining EHP?
Since joining EHP I have learned to appreciate my body and my fitness so much more. Before, I never really thought about nutrition or the proper way to fuel my body. And now, I am learning how nutrition can help me be the best I can be. Additionally, since joining EHP, I have learned that working out can be fun and something I can look forward to, instead of being a chore. I am realizing that fitness is something that I want to do for myself and not for anyone else. As I mentioned before, I am so much stronger since joining EHP, and this is helping me to be proud of what my body is able to do and also see the potential for improvement. I am always super excited to continue to better my mental and physical fitness in any way I can.

-Anything else you would like to share about yourself, fitness journey and/or EHP
I just want to emphasize that, although I really enjoy CrossFit itself and the workout, it’s the people at EHP that make the biggest difference. I am super thankful that I have found such a fun, encouraging, and welcoming environment to be a part of. I have never been one to enjoy working out by myself, so it has been amazing to have people surrounding me that want to see me succeed. Everyone at EHP knows how to push me, inspire me, and never let me give up. Thank you to everyone who is supporting me through my fitness journey.
