Each month the coaching staff at EHP selects a member that is “Better Than Yesterday!” The selected recipient is a great example of EHP’s CREDO—demonstrating compassion, honesty, resilience, perseverance, and tenacity. Braden Ashworth was selected as May’s “Better Than Yesterday” recipient.

Why do you enjoy CrossFit?
Prior to my joining of EHP I thought I had my fitness under control. CrossFit is for fit people, it’s something I will never be able to do, its just not meant for people “like” me! Then I tried it, and boy was I misinformed! I enjoy CrossFit for many reasons, but the main part besides the fitness part is the community and overwhelming sense of belonging I fell EVERY time I show up. That community is why I continue to show up (even if I don’t want to!)

Why do you continue CrossFit?
I continue my journey to reach that next level of accomplishment. Just when I think I am not progressing, I add a little more weight or do a few more reps and it fully resets my perception. I still feel like I am slower than I should be but looking back I am leaps and bounds further than I would have ever imagined (or felt at Planet Fitness haha).

Greatest achievement since starting CrossFit?
I have had many milestones in the last two years since joining, but I would say my biggest accomplishments would be completing the Friday Night Lights Circuit. It made me feel like I had not only earned a spot to be there, but I also held my own and made it to the finish. EHP is extremely empowering, and the electric atmosphere got me there!

How has your life changed since joining EHP?
I have more energy to keep up with my kids! I have a stronger sense of confidence and probably carry myself a bit differently that I did prior to joining. I have always been a bigger guy and EHP really helped me undo years of stigma and accept the way I am and realize that bigger isn’t as bad as it may seem or feel. I also can’t stop telling people about it (must be impactful or something!). I want others to feel how I feel through both hard work, and the community that surrounds you will you do it!

Anything else about yourself, fitness journey, or with EHP?
Thank you very much for the nomination. I have a long way to go, but man I am leaps and bounds further along than I could have ever imagined while working out alone at some basic gym. EHP is something special. It’s a place where friends are made, sweat is shed, and effort comes to life. It’s electric and I can’t wait to keep it up!
