Each month the coaching staff at EHP selects a member that is “Better Than Yesterday!” The selected recipient is a great example of EHP’s CREDO—demonstrating compassion, honesty, resilience, perseverance, and tenacity. Lacey Gebeke was selected as November’s “Better Than Yesterday” recipient.

Why do you start training at EHP?
I started training at EHP to have help guiding me back into working out and moving my body. Strengthening and overall form and technique were big factors given I have a 5-level fusion in my cervical spine, and daily chronic pain as a result. I felt like they had the best expertise to help ensure I safely reached my goals. After trying just about everything to keep my pain levels down, I figured they would be the place to try.

Why do you continue training at EHP?
I really enjoy the workouts! I love that each workout is so different and works different parts of your body, not just a daily grind like normal gym routines. All of my trainers make sure I work hard, yet make sure I take care of myself and really listen to my body. If I feel like I can’t one day, there’s no judgement and we just move on the next day. They also go out of their way to make sure I’m feeling ok and try to help me find pain relief on my bad flare up days.

Greatest achievement since starting at EHP?
My greatest achievement is probably box jumps, because at one point in my life I wasn’t sure that my legs would do such a simple yet strong movement. Also just being consistent in showing up and moving my body, even though it’s only 2-3 times a week, I’m really proud that I’ve stuck with it.

How has your life changed since joining EHP?
My confidence in my body and what it can do has soared! My overall strength and endurance has improved. I can handle my bad pain days better because I know I can still perform and show up after them. When I started, I was afraid to shovel snow, clean both levels of my house, even sleep wrong because it would set my body off into a tailspin of flare ups for days. I feel like I have more control over how my body responds to stress and potential triggers as well as the overall ability to function daily as someone with chronic pain. Through coaching and their support, EHP has definitely made this possible.
