Each month the coaching staff at EHP selects a member that is “Better Than Yesterday!” The selected recipient is a great example of EHP’s CREDO—demonstrating compassion, honesty, resilience, perseverance, and tenacity. Dustin Bourgois was selected as October’s “Better Than Yesterday” recipient.
Dustin was asked a series of questions about his experience at EHP:
Why did you start CrossFit?
In 2016 I started CrossFit to be more active and lose weight.
Why do you continue CrossFit?
During Covid I quit CrossFit for about 9 months and found myself on the peloton bike with an occasional run to keep moving. The connections I made with CrossFit stayed but I missed the community that CrossFit provides. Decided to join EHP after hearing from Nikola and Duane how much they liked the community at EHP.
What has been your greatest achievement since starting EHP?
Several months after quitting CrossFit I noticed my resting heart rate increased since switching to Peloton and running. Strength training and the Wods were something I was not doing since quitting CrossFit. Almost a year after starting up again at EHP I have noticed my resting heart rate has returned to the lower rates.
Joining Aerobic Capacity has been a huge help to increase my running speed and also increase my VO2 max to its highest number since owning a Garmin watch.
How has your life changed since joining EHP?
Family life has gotten better because it is also impacting my daughters in seeing my hard work. My daughters will workout with me to help me get more points(MEPs). Both girls were interested in the journey for the MEP challenge. My oldest is in BIO girls and we will workout together to get extra workouts for her homework. Hopefully the change will continue to impact them too.
Anything else you would like to share about yourself, fitness journey and/or EHP.
The coaching at EHP has been phenomenal in helping me better myself day in and day out. Much of my progress would not be possible with the help I receive from the coaching. A big bonus is using the MyZone heart rate monitor in knowing when I do not push myself hard enough in a workout or that I went too hard. Seeing the results from a workout will help me push harder depending on what I see in looking at the results.
According to Dustin’s coach, Coach Wyatt, Dustin has improved his running form and speed through his participating in the Aerobic Capacity class. He did a triathlon this summer and is currently working to improve his strength and gymnastics skills. He’s incredibly coachable, quietly making progress on those goals every day.
Keep up the great work, Dustin!
